Posture is where it all starts. Before your horse takes a single stride, their posture is already telling a story about how they load their limbs, where they carry tension, which muscles are overworking, and where the body is quietly building towards a problem. Most performance issues, recurring soreness, and subtle soundness complaints have a postural component. But posture is often the last thing evaluated, if it's evaluated at all.
What's Included:
Dr. Kristen evaluates how your horse stands, loads each limb and develops muscle, identifying asymmetries and compensation patterns that affect how they move and perform. Findings are documented with a written report and photos, giving you a clear baseline to track progress and changes over time. Assessments are performed at your barn, on level ground, and findings are walked through with you directly.
What is a horse posture assessment?
It's an evaluation of how your horse stands, loads each limb, and carries tension or muscle development, done at your barn on level ground. It identifies compensation patterns before they show up as soreness or a performance issue.
How is posture assessment different from a lameness exam?
A lameness exam looks at movement to find the source of an existing problem. Posture assessment looks at the horse standing still, to catch what's developing before it becomes lameness.
Is posture assessment useful for a sound horse?
Yes. It's often most valuable for horses that are sound but not performing the way they should, or for building a baseline before problems develop.
